When Heather realized the lack of opportunities available to her at her halfway house, she decided to seek housing at Our House. As soon as Heather arrived in our Shelter, she saw that if she worked the program and applied herself, she would be able to move forward. When a knee injury kept her from her job, Heather was able to enroll in our job training program as the Intake Clerk for the Shelter, and later oversaw communications at our Resale Store. While working, Heather moved up to our Family House program; utilized the services in our Career Center to open a bank account, improve her computer skills, and learn how to budget; and was assigned a Reentry Case Manager to help her overcome any legal challenges. Our House gave Heather the structure, accountability, and support she needed to become sober and the confidence she needed to reconnect with her children. After saving and building a strong foundation of work and life skills, Heather has moved into her own home with her fiance, whom she met at Our House, and was hired in a staff position as a temporary Assistant Manager at our Resale Store. Heather's determination to change her circumstances gained her permanent housing and has allowed her to transition from an Our House client to an Our House team member!
