The SICSA Help Center in Dayton, Ohio supports people in crisis, or challenging circumstances, by keeping the pets centered in their lives from being surrendered to the shelter. Services include temporary housing for animals displaced by emergencies, including domestic violence, house fires, and unscheduled hospitalizations. The SICSA Help Center also provides assistance with pet food and other necessary supplies, as well as behavioral assessments and support. For many, the SICSA Help Center has been the safety net that kept their family together.
After a devastating fire, Mathue lost most of his belongings, his car, and even his home. Thankfully, he was able to escape the flames with his dog Zeta. Though both of them were physically unharmed, the trauma and stress they endured was lasting. Beyond this, Zeta was suffering from an ear infection, leaving her in a great deal of pain.
Despite his own struggles, Mathue focused on Zeta’s pressing medical issues. He even considered surrendering her to SICSA. While he did not want to be separated from his beloved pet, he felt that this would be her best chance at receiving the medical care she so desperately needed. SICSA had other plans.
Rather than take Zeta into the adoption program here at SICSA, we felt it would be better to do all we could to keep her with the loving owner she already had. We began providing Zeta the treatment she required. In addition to treatment for her ear infection, we addressed her allergy issues, spayed her, and provided an ear hematoma surgery. Most importantly, we were able to keep a family together when they needed each other most.
After her treatment at SICSA, Zeta and Mathue continued living happily together. Mathue continued to work toward getting back on his feet, and Zeta is no longer in pain. Mathue refers to Zeta as his “therapy dog”, but it was clear to us from the moment we met them that their bond is mutual. We are proud to have acted as a safety net for Mathue and Zeta, and for numerous families like them. So please, ‘Show Some Love’ by making a life-saving donation today and help SICSA be the ‘Face of Change’ in the Animal Welfare Community.
